Scouts Nominated for Beliefnet's "Most Inspiring Person of the Year" Award. Please Vote

a letter from our Chief Scout Executive.

The Boy Scouts of Little Sioux Scout Ranch have been nominated for Beliefnet's "Most Inspiring Person of the Year" award. The way our Scouts reacted following the tornado at the Iowa Scout camp in June has touched the lives of thousands of people across the country and around the world.

There are 10 nominees for this award and the Scouts have a chance to win. To vote for the Boy Scouts as the most inspiring, visit http://www.beliefnet.com/Inspiration/Most-Inspiring-2008/vote.aspx.

Please visit the tribute site at http://www.mac-bsa.org/littlesiouxtribute to learn more about what happened at Little Sioux last summer and what's been going on since. Many people have asked how to support the Scouts following the events on June 11, 2008. Voting for the Scouts as the most inspirational people of the year is one way. The winner of this award receives a donation to the charity of their choice. That donation can help the Mid-America Council continue to rebuild Little Sioux Scout Ranch so it's read for the grand re-opening on May 2, 2009.

Scouting programs promote honesty, helping others, character development, respect for the law, citizenship, and leadership in youth through fun activities. Some of Scouts' favorite activities are campouts, time spent with friends, swimming, hiking and earning merit badges. Let's give our Scouts the opportunity to do these things at Little Sioux Scout Ranch.

Thank you for your support.

Membership Inventory

We are currently doing a membership inventory trying to find all of the scouts in our district that are not registered. Your Unit Leader and your Popcorn Kernel should have received a roster in the mail in the last month. Please look over this roster and see if you have anyone that is missing. We really want to get them added ASAP.

Thanks

Phew

Ok. Been away for awhile and the site hasn't been updated in awhile. Please forgive me, my computer was in the repair depot for one of those months.

Here is a photo from Camp to make up for it.

New Uniforms for Boy Scouts this August

Just heard about it this last week at camp. They look interesting.

Here is the quick run down.

Red is gone (except for where it says Boy Scouts of America on the shirt)
All the materials are modern and designed for moisture management.
Shoulder Loops and Unit numbers are now Forest Green as is the hat

I was a bit worried when I first heard about them, but they look close enough to the old uniforms that these being slowly integrated into a unit will not be too big of a shock.

Camp Photo Friday

Here is a blast from the past to try and figure out while I'm at camp.

Camp!!!!

Sorry for not keeping up with info, but my laptop was in for service for most of the week. I have some packing to do today because tomorrow I head out to camp, so don't expect many posts from me over the week. If you are out to MVSR say hello, we are going to be in Upper Walnut. I promise that I'll have some cool new snapshots to share with you when I get back.

I also added some new weather tickers to the blog, the first gives the current weather conditions and the second gives the sunrise sunset times. If you click on them they will give you the weather forecast.
